Vermont, Spring, 2006

Due to a death in the family, we unexpectedly took a trip to Eamon's hometown, Bellows Falls, Vermont, in May of 2006. While the reason we went was an unhappy occurance, we managed to make the best of the situation. We received the call in the late afternoon of the family death, and Eamon headed off to work his overnight shift. We left late the next morning for the 1300 mile drive. The three of us drove pretty much straight through, stopping only for meals and diaper changes. We made it into Vermont in record time, ready to offer support and our giggly bundle of joy, Caley. She was about 14 months old at the time and had just started to walk - on Mother's Day of that same year. She navigated pretty well for herself on Grandpa Coyne's hardwood floors - without too much trouble! It was so nice to see Eamon's Vermont family - cousins, aunts, uncles, and of course, Grandpa Coyne! We reacquainted with old friends, and made some new, very dear friends. We had such a grand time with family and friends - that it was very hard to leave. Thank you so much Grandpa Coyne and Uncle Fran for making it possible for us to be with the family at this time! When it was time to leave, we did so with heavy hearts, but also with the promise of seeing everyone soon!
Unfortunately, the trip back home was not a smooth one. We were rear-ended in Indiana - at a toll booth, no less! Thankfully it was a minor fender bender, and we were on our way again. Only to be stopped for speeding in Wisconsin. Oop! We made it home, tired, bumped and ticketed - but at least, safely!

P.S. Stay away from Chicago at rush hour, and during construction.

The Last Frontier Experience, For The First Time

In December of 2005, the three of us were invited to Rachel's hometown of Juneau, Alaska. This was Eamon's and Caley's first time to this great state. We were fortunate enough to see the sights in clear, sunny weather - as it's usually rainy, foggy and dreary. Although it was chilly at times, it was actually warmer than our current home of Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Rach's parents drove us to the end of the road, out in the valley - as you can only get here by plane or boat. We enjoyed many family meals and just spending time together. This was the first time that Caley and Eamon were able to meet Rach's brother, Erik, and his girlfriend, Pam. Everyone had a good time and we can't wait to come back again!
